Hi, I’m Dan, one half of Tides and Tribe. I’m originally from London but now call the North Kent coast home.
I’ve been sea fishing for about 8–9 years. When I first started, I’d fish from the shore — not catching much but loving the fresh air. My son Connor soon joined me, and before long we were both hooked.
Fishing became more than just a hobby when I got a job working on the boats, doing netting and potting. Connor would often come along for the long shifts at sea, and he loved every minute of it with his dad.
Life got in the way for a while, but we reignited our passion by starting the Tides and Tribe YouTube channel — sharing our adventures, challenges, and everything we love about fishing together.
My Fishing Journey
Fishing Style: Mostly shore fishing — nothing beats setting up camp and casting out. That said, I also love boat fishing, and I’m working toward getting out on the water more often.
What I Target: Honestly, anything in our waters! Every catch makes me happy.
Memorable Catch: A smooth hound at Hampton Beach while targeting flatfish — a proper fight and a great surprise.
Favourite Memory: When Connor was about 10, we went night fishing at Dungeness. Our tent was ruined, and it looked like the trip was over. But instead, we lay on the stones, watched the clouds clear, and fished under the stars. It turned into a magical father–son bonding night I’ll never forget.
Gear I Use: I used budget rods and reels for years, but I’ve recently upgraded to my Penn Tidal XT 8000 setup — love it. We also make our own rigs and plan to slowly upgrade our gear as our journey continues.
Outside the Water
Fishing may be my passion, but I’m a family man first and foremost. Life outside fishing is all about supporting my kids — whether it’s watching my youngest play football, backing my son in his boxing career, or just being there for my family.
I’m also an amateur music producer. I love creating beats for fun, and although fishing overshadows that passion, music has always been a big part of me. (And yes — I even tried my hand at rapping… cringe, but some of it wasn’t half bad! 😅)
Why Fishing Matters to Me!
Fishing is therapy. The stillness of the sea gives my mind space to breathe, and it helps me reset. Sharing this with Connor makes it even more meaningful — our bond through fishing is unbreakable.
What started as just a way to record our trips for family and friends has now grown into a bigger dream. Through Tides and Tribe, we want to share our passion, our stories, and our life on the water — and hopefully, make this our way of life.
