The Final Chapter Of An Unforgettable Adventure
After an incredible week filled with fishing, exploring and making memories, Part 5 marks the final chapter of our Palamós adventure.

It's always strange reaching the end of a trip you've been looking forward to for months. On one hand, you're grateful for all the experiences you've had. On the other, you're already wishing you could stay just a little bit longer.

Our final fishing sessions began with a relaxed evening on Palamós Beach.
The fishing wasn't exactly hectic, but we did manage one notable catch. Initially, I believed it was some form of seabream. However, after doing some research later, I discovered it was actually a Sand Steenbras.

Thankfully, it was of legal size and perfectly edible because I'd already dispatched it with the intention of taking it home for dinner. Fortunately, it turned out to be a very tasty fish and made for a great meal.

Even though the fishing was quiet, spending time on Palamós Beach after dark was a special experience in itself.

The town takes on a completely different atmosphere at night. The lights reflecting across the water, the sound of the waves and the peaceful surroundings made it a memorable evening regardless of what was biting.

The following day we decided to explore a small rocky cove called Platja de les Pots.
Getting there required navigating around some rocks, but once we arrived it felt like discovering a hidden corner of paradise.

With swimmers and scuba divers filling many of the more popular areas due to the beautiful weather, this secluded little cove provided exactly what we were looking for.
Peace and quiet.

The crystal-clear water, dramatic rock formations and lack of crowds made it one of our favourite locations of the entire trip.

Fishing there produced a couple of beautiful fish that we believe were Rainbow Wrasse. Their colours were absolutely stunning, with vibrant patterns and piercing eyes that looked almost unreal in the Mediterranean sunshine.

Eventually the action slowed down, so we packed up and headed towards the harbour for another session.
The harbour quickly turned into a lesson in missed opportunities.

The first fish I hooked came off almost immediately after being lifted from the water. Before I could even think about grabbing it, the fish bounced straight back into the sea and disappeared.

Moments later, I hooked what looked to be a lovely mullet using bread as bait.
Unfortunately, my landing technique left a lot to be desired.

As I lifted the fish from the water, it tapped the harbour wall, which was just enough to shake the hook loose. Before I could react, it had already slipped back into the water and swum away.
At least it provided Connor with plenty of material to laugh at later.

Thankfully, we still managed to catch a few smaller fish during the session, including what we believe was a small bream for Connor and a couple of other species that we'll need to identify properly when reviewing footage back home.

The next day brought glorious sunshine.
While that sounds ideal, it wasn't necessarily great news for fishing. Palamós Beach was packed with swimmers, families and sunbathers making the most of the weather.

Rather than trying to squeeze in a fishing session, we decided to do something we rarely allow ourselves to do, Nothing!

We stretched out on the beach, enjoyed the sunshine, went swimming and simply relaxed.

Connor spent much of the day snorkelling and exploring the underwater world with the camera. The footage he captured was fantastic and gave us a fascinating glimpse into the marine life swimming around just offshore.

Watching him enjoy himself so much reminded me that fishing isn't always about catching fish.
Sometimes it's simply about enjoying the environment and appreciating the experience.

Later that evening we returned for a handful of final casts once the crowds had gone home.

Unfortunately, the fish weren't interested.
Still, every cast felt important because we both knew this would likely be our final fishing session of the holiday.
By this stage, the holiday blues had already started to creep in.

The next morning arrived far sooner than either of us wanted.
Leaving the apartment was surprisingly emotional. Over the course of the trip, it had transformed from somewhere we were staying into somewhere that genuinely felt like home.
Saying goodbye to Palamós itself was even harder.

To make the journey back easier, I had booked us a day stay at a hotel near Girona Airport before our flight.
It turned out to be one of the best decisions of the trip.

The hotel was a lovely place called Salles. Instead of spending hours waiting around at the airport, we enjoyed the swimming pool, relaxed in the spa and made the most of our final few hours in Spain.

The food was excellent too, which as someone who enjoys his meals was a definite highlight.
Connor, meanwhile, spent most of his time insisting the place was far too posh for him.

Then, before we knew it, it was time.
A final journey to the airport.
A final look at Spain.
A final boarding call.

And just like that, we were on our way back to London.
Our first international Tides and Tribe adventure had come to an end.
The trip gave us beautiful scenery, new friendships, amazing fishing experiences and memories that neither of us will ever forget.

Most importantly, it gave us quality time together doing something we both love.
Palamós has left a lasting impression on us, and one thing is absolutely certain:

We'll be back.
Until next time...
Adiós Palamós.
