Our Story
Tides & Tribe — How It All Began
Fishing came into my life a little later than it does for some.
About 9 years ago, I decided to give it a try — and I was hooked. Before long, that new passion led me to working on the boats out of Whitstable, an experience I'll always treasure.
Even back then, my eldest son, Connor, who was only eight years old at the time, would sometimes join me on those long 18-hour shifts. He loved every minute of it, and I loved seeing his excitement.
Soon, our shared love of fishing moved from the boats to rod-and-reel trips from the beach.
For us, it was never about being the best anglers or taking ourselves too seriously. It was about getting outside, having a laugh, spending time together and chasing that elusive “big one” that always seemed to be waiting for us on the next trip.
Fishing became our favourite way to spend time together.
How Tides & Tribe Began
Then life, as it often does, got in the way.
We ended up going more than a year without fishing. During that time, I felt like something was missing. Connor was getting older and navigating those teenage years, and we'd lost something that had always given us time together away from everything else.
So we decided to get the rods back out and return to the water.
And that's really where **Tides & Tribe** began.
We started our YouTube channel as a way of documenting our sea fishing adventures together — the good sessions, the blanks, the mistakes, the laughs and hopefully the occasional decent fish!
We're not trying to pretend we're expert anglers who know everything.
We're learning all the time, just like everyone else.
What you'll see from us is simply our fishing as it really happens.
From Fishing Adventures to Tides & Tribe
As the channel and community started to grow, we realised Tides & Tribe could become something bigger than simply sharing our own fishing trips.
We wanted to build a place for people who enjoy fishing for many of the same reasons we do.
That's why we've started developing the Tides & Tribe website and shop alongside our fishing content.
Our aim is to offer fishing tackle and products that we'd be happy to use ourselves, alongside useful information, fishing stories and everything we're learning along the way.
We're based in Kent, so our roots are firmly on the Kent coast. As well as delivering across the UK, we're proud to offer local collection and delivery options for anglers around Whitstable and Herne Bay.
The shop will grow gradually. We'd rather build it properly, choose products carefully and earn people's trust than fill the website with thousands of products just for the sake of looking bigger.
More Than Just Catching Fish
The older we've both become, the more we've realised that fishing isn't always about what you catch.
Sometimes it's about switching off from everything else.
Sometimes it's standing on a beach wondering why you got out of bed at that ridiculous hour.
Sometimes it's finally catching the fish you've been chasing.
And sometimes it's simply having a brew, talking rubbish and spending a few hours with someone who matters to you.
That's what fishing has given us.
Tides & Tribe is about the fishing, the adventure, the laughs, the difficult days and, most importantly, the people you share them with.
That's where the Tribe comes in.
Join the Tribe
We're still near the beginning of this journey, and we've got a long way to go.
We'll make mistakes. We'll learn. Hopefully we'll catch a few decent fish along the way.
But we'll always try to keep Tides & Tribe honest, friendly and true to the reason we started it in the first place — a father and son spending more time together through a shared love of sea fishing.
If that sounds like your kind of fishing, we'd love you to come along for the ride.
You can follow our fishing adventures on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok,, or have a look around the Tides & Tribe Shop.
Whether you're here to watch an adventure, learn something, pick up some tackle or simply have a chat about fishing...
Welcome to the Tribe.
