Back on the Fish – Whitstable Harbour Night Session
Share
Sometimes footage sits on your computer for a few days… sometimes nearly a month 😅
This session was filmed on the 1st of April at Whitstable Harbour during a quick night trip. The original plan wasn’t even focused purely on fishing—we were also out collecting crabs for an upcoming session. After a string of blanks recently, expectations were pretty low. At that point, we would’ve taken anything just to feel a bite again.
And that’s exactly what happened.

A Simple Session That Meant More Than Big Catches
The fishing itself wasn’t anything spectacular, but honestly, it didn’t need to be. After several trips with nothing to show, just getting back into fish felt like a win.
By the end of the session, the catch report looked like this:
Me: 2 dogfish, 1 dab, 1 whiting
Connor: 3 dogfish
Plus a solid bucket of fresh crabs collected for future bait 🦀
Dogfish might not be everyone’s favourite catch, but when you’ve been blanking, they suddenly become very welcome!

More Than Just Fishing – A Big Step Forward
One of the biggest parts of this session wasn’t actually the fishing—it was what we announced during it.
After a lot of planning behind the scenes, we officially shared that Tides and Tribe is being developed into a business.
This is something we’ve been working towards for a while now, and it’s finally starting to take shape.

What’s Coming from Tides and Tribe?
Over the next couple of months, we’re aiming to launch:
Custom fishing rigs
Branded merchandise
A bait supply service (both live and frozen)
There’s still plenty to organise—especially getting things like fridges and freezers set up—but the goal is to be fully up and running by the end of June.
It’s an exciting step, and one that wouldn’t be possible without the support we’ve had so far.

The Power of the Fishing Community
Whether it’s people watching the videos, chatting on the beach, or offering advice and encouragement, the support has been unreal.
Fishing has always been about more than just catching—it’s about the people, the learning, and the shared experiences. Turning that into something bigger is both exciting and a little surreal.
Looking Ahead
This video might have been nearly forgotten, but it marks an important point in the journey.
It’s a reminder that not every session needs to be full of big fish to matter.
Next up, we’ve got another session from the following day at Reculver… and to keep it honest—yeah, we blanked 😂
But even that trip had its own value, as we met a professional bait digger who could play a big role in the future of Tides and Tribe once everything is set up properly.

Final Thoughts
This is just the beginning.
There’s still a lot to learn, a lot to build, and hopefully plenty more fish to catch along the way.
We’re excited to see where this goes—and even more excited to bring you all along for the journey.
