Connor’s First Flight – The Fishing Town Of Palamós | Part 1

Tides and Tribe have officially gone international!

To celebrate Connor’s 16th birthday, we headed off on an unforgettable 8-day trip to the beautiful fishing town of Palamós in Spain. This trip was extra special for several reasons, but one moment stood out above all else — Connor was about to experience his very first flight.

Our journey began at Stansted Airport where we boarded a Ryanair flight bound for Girona Airport. I hadn’t stepped onto a plane for many years myself, so it felt like a huge experience for both of us. As we waited at the airport, you could clearly see Connor starting to feel nervous, even though he tried his best to hide it. The excitement, anticipation and uncertainty all rolled into one.

The moment the plane finally took off was priceless. Connor’s face completely lit up as we climbed through the clouds. Watching his reaction was something I’ll never forget. It really does feel incredible seeing the world from above, and I’m certain that first flight memory will stay with him forever.

After landing in Girona, we jumped on a bus heading towards Palamós. By this point we were both absolutely exhausted from the travelling and all we could think about was getting into the apartment and getting some rest.

When we finally arrived, we met our hosts Monica and Luis who immediately made us feel welcome. The apartment we had booked, called “Bonito estudio en el centro,” honestly exceeded all expectations. The effort they had gone to was incredible. There was a personalised welcome card with our names printed on it, snacks waiting for us and even a fully stocked fridge with a variety of drinks ready for our arrival.

It’s rare to find hosts that genuinely go above and beyond, but Monica and Luis absolutely did. The apartment itself was perfectly located right in the heart of Palamós. Within just a couple of minutes walking distance, you had access to the beach, marina, harbour, fish market, restaurants and local shops.

If you’re considering visiting Palamós, we honestly could not recommend it enough.

Originally, the plan was to unpack and immediately get some sleep. But once we saw the surroundings, there was absolutely no chance of that happening. The excitement completely took over and we decided to head straight out to explore.

The first thing that stood out to us was the beach. The water was unbelievably clear and looked absolutely stunning. We also spent time walking around the harbour where we were amazed by the amount of fish swimming around in the crystal-clear water. Huge schools of fish moved around the marina and honestly put some of our local fishing spots to shame.

There was something truly magical about standing there watching it all unfold. The atmosphere in Palamós felt peaceful, welcoming and full of life all at the same time.

o finish off the day, we grabbed some quality food before finally heading back to the apartment for some well-earned rest, ready for the adventures ahead.

This was only the beginning of the trip, and there’s plenty more to come in Part 2, so stay tuned for the next chapter of our Spanish adventure.
