Dungeness and Hythe | Fishing not at its best 9th September 2025
Some trips just don’t go as planned — and our attempt at fishing Dungeness for 24 hours proved exactly that! What started as an ambitious adventure ended up as a bit of a salvage mission at Hythe, but it turned out to be a memorable trip nonetheless.
We set up at Dungeness in amazing weather, with a full camp including shelters, tents, and even our mascot Penny, our dog. We fished all day without a single bite, wondering what was going wrong, but held out hope that the night would be better.
Then, in a twist of luck, our new friends from Hythe, Aaron and Rhys, randomly appeared behind us — they’d had the same idea of fishing Dungeness! Aaron quickly spotted what we had missed: the fishing boats had their nets out, which explained the lack of action all day. After a few laughs, we packed up and made our way back to Hythe together.
While the trip didn’t go as planned, it was a great reminder that fishing isn’t just about the catch. With the right people around, even a challenging day can turn into a fun and memorable experience. Spending time with my son Connor, and now sharing the day with some new friends, proved that the people you fish with are just as important as the fish you catch.
