Fresh Air & A Tough Day’s Fishing at Tankerton Beach
Sometimes you plan a fishing trip around the tides, and sometimes you just need to get out of the house and onto the beach. This session at Tankerton Beach was very much the latter.
An Early Arrival on the Ebbing Tide
We arrived really early while the tide was still on its way out. The main goal wasn’t just the fishing — it was getting some fresh air, stretching the legs, and enjoying a full day by the sea.
Low tide actually worked out perfectly for Connor, giving him the chance to dig around for bait and explore the shoreline. He absolutely loves that part of the session just as much as the fishing itself, and it’s a great way for him to stay involved from the very start. Meanwhile, Penney the dog was in her element, charging up and down the beach like the true tribe mascot she is.
Fishing Through the Whole Tide
We settled in and fished right through the day, all the way until the tide pushed back in. Baits were fresh, rigs were spot on, and everything felt like it should have produced.
But… not a single bite.
It was one of those strange sessions where everything seemed right. The sea looked fishy, the bait was top notch, and conditions on the surface didn’t look terrible — yet the rods stayed completely still.
When the Fish Just Won’t Feed
Personally, I’m convinced the air pressure was all wrong. It genuinely felt like the fish were there, but they just were not in the mood to feed. Any angler will tell you that those are the most frustrating days — when you know you’re doing everything right, but the bites just don’t come.
No knocks, no rattles, no proper signs of life on the rods for the entire session.
Saved From a Blank at the End
Just when it looked like we were heading for a full blank, Connor managed to foul hook a small dab right towards the end of the session.
Now, it might not have been a proper bite, but it definitely saved the day and gave us a little moment to smile about after such a quiet session. Fair play to him — he stuck it out all day and deserved that bit of action!
More Than Just the Catch
At the end of the day, sessions like this remind you why we do it.
Yes, the fishing was tough.
Yes, the fish weren’t biting.
But we spent the whole day outdoors, breathing in the sea air, watching the tide turn, digging bait, and just enjoying time together away from the noise of everyday life.
And honestly, that’s a win in my book every single time.
