Hampton Beach Fishing 27th October 2025
This one wasn’t quite what we had planned. The original idea was to spend a couple of days down at Chesil Beach, but the weather stepped in and completely destroyed that plan. Rather than let the bait go to waste, we decided to stay local and get a few short sessions in, starting off at Hampton Beach.
The forecast said winds around 30mph, but honestly, it was surprisingly comfortable once we got set up. The sea had a nice bit of colour to it — that kind of murky look that usually hides a few fish — and it gave us a bit of confidence that something might happen.
We got there just before dark and set up with 3-hook flappers, all tied up earlier in the day, using size 2 hooks. It didn’t take long before the action started, and from that point on, it barely stopped. The rods were nodding constantly — I could hardly sit down for more than a minute before something else was tapping away.
The only thing was, every single fish was a whiting. No other species made an appearance, but to be fair, it didn’t matter much. Between us, we landed around 40 fish, keeping 13 decent ones for the table. They’ll be turned into whiting fish cakes, so nothing goes to waste.
It was one of those sessions that remind you why it’s worth heading out, even when plans go wrong. Plenty of bites, steady sport, and good fun all round — definitely better than sitting indoors staring at the rain.
Catch Report
Me & Connor: Around 40 whiting total (13 kept for the plate)
We were both using simple 3-hook flapper rigs with size 2 hooks and lugworm for bait. The conditions were spot on — good colour in the water, steady surf, and enough movement to keep the fish interested.
Final Thoughts
What started as a backup plan turned into a cracking little session. Sometimes the best days happen when things don’t go to plan. Plenty of fish, plenty of laughs, and a freezer stocked up with fresh fillets for fish cakes.
We’ll be hitting a few more local spots while the weather sorts itself out, but Hampton definitely delivered for this one.
