Hythe West Parade | Whitstable Harbour 29th September 2025

Me and Connor headed out for another session, starting the day with a stop at our favourite food stand in Chestfield — Larkings — to grab some grub and fuel up for a full day of fishing. With the weather looking excellent (if anything, a bit too good), spirits were high as we made our way down to Hythe West Parade Beach.

We arrived early and set up for what we hoped would be a busy day on the rods. The sea looked perfect, calm and inviting, but as the hours ticked by it became clear the fish just weren’t interested. We fished all through the day without so much as a knock — one of those sessions that keeps you humble.

As the light started to fade and the evening tide pushed in, things finally picked up a bit. Connor got into the action first, landing 4 whiting, 1 flatty, and a dogfish, keeping him busy into the night. I didn’t have quite the same luck — just 2 small whiting to my name before things went quiet again.

Not wanting to call it a night just yet, we packed up and made the move over to Whitstable Harbour to see if we could tempt a bass or two. Unfortunately, the move didn’t change our fortunes much — I finished up with a blank there, while Connor managed to add another dogfish to his tally.

Despite the slow fishing, it was still a cracking day to be out and about — sunshine, good company, and plenty of laughs between casts. The fish might not have wanted to play this time, but that’s all part of it. Hopefully, they’ll show up for the next trip!
