Man Flu to Dogfish Domination – A Full Day Fishing Adventure
Fishing trips don’t always go to plan —and this was one of those weekends.
Connor had been struck down with the dreaded man flu, forcing us to cancel our original fishing plans. But as he started to feel a bit better, we decided to make the most of it and head out for a simple day of fresh air and fishing. No pressure, just a chance to get back out there.
Whitstable Harbour – Bait and Frustration
We began the day at Whitstable Harbour, collecting live crabs for bait. As expected, they were in abundance, and we had no trouble filling up.
However, once again we were met with something that’s becoming far too common—abandoned crab nets left behind by holidaymakers. On one hand, it means we haven’t had to buy crab nets in years. On the other, it’s incredibly frustrating to see such disregard for a beautiful location.
It raises a simple question—why visit somewhere lovely, only to leave it worse than you found it?
Barton Point – Sunshine but Silence
With bait sorted, we made our way over to Barton Point on the Isle of Sheppey. It’s another fantastic spot, though sadly not immune to the same issues with litter and careless visitors.
We set up in glorious sunshine, enjoyed some time messing about with our mascot Penney, and tucked into some proper sausage and bacon rolls. Honestly, at that point, the day already felt like a win.
The only problem? The fish clearly didn’t agree.
Not a single bite.
Change of Plan – Ramsgate Harbour
Rather than sit it out, we decided to make a move and try our luck at Ramsgate Harbour. Sometimes a change of scenery is all it takes—and this time, it definitely made a difference.
Joined by our mate Aaron, we got the rods out, and it didn’t take long before the tell-tale knocks began.
Dogfish.
And plenty of them.
Aaron was first on the board, quickly followed by Connor—who managed to land the standout catch of the day: a lovely flounder measuring 33cm and just under a pound. Safe to say, that sorted dinner nicely!
Dogfish Takeover
The rest of the session turned into a proper dogfish fest. One after another, they kept coming in.
Final tally:
5 dogfish for me
6 for Aaron
4 dogfish and 1 flounder for Connor
Connor took the win—and with a fish for the table, it was well deserved.
A Moment That Meant a Lot
One of the real highlights of the night had nothing to do with fishing.
A couple of lads set up next to us—Barry and Nathan—and it turned out they were subscribers to the channel. Getting recognised like that genuinely means a lot. It’s a reminder that what we’re doing is reaching people, and that’s something we never take for granted.
We’re already planning a future session together, so keep an eye out for that!
Gear and Setup
We kept things fairly standard throughout:
2 hook flapper rigs with size 2/0 hooks
Pulley rigs with size 3/0 hooks
Baits included live crab, black lugworm, squid, and sardines

Final Thoughts
It might not have been the most productive fishing session in terms of variety, but days like this are about more than just the catch.
Fresh air, good food, great company—and time spent doing what we love.
And let’s be honest… one fish for the table and a load of dogfish? Could be worse.
