Portugal Adventure Part 4 – Facing Our Fears Parasailing!!

If you've been following our Portugal series, you'll know this holiday wasn't just about fishing.

We wanted to experience everything Quarteira and Vilamoura had to offer, and in this episode we did something neither of us had ever attempted before.

We went parasailing.

I'll admit something...

From the moment I suggested it, I regretted it.

I've never been particularly comfortable with heights and, just before flying out to Portugal, I'd seen a TikTok showing two girls parasailing before accidentally ending up in the sea surrounded by sharks.

Not exactly confidence-inspiring!

That video stayed firmly in the back of my mind throughout the holiday.

But sometimes you have to ignore the little voice telling you not to do something.

I wanted Connor to see that life is about making memories, trying new things and not letting fear decide what experiences you miss out on.

Looking back now...

I'm incredibly glad I listened to that advice myself.

Another Morning at Vilamoura Marina

Like every activity we've booked on this holiday, we arrived far earlier than necessary.

It's just how we are.

Rather than rushing around, we spent some time wandering through the beautiful Vilamoura Marina, admiring the boats and Motorbikes, watching fish swimming beneath the pontoons and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere before checking in.

It gave me plenty of time to let the nerves build!

Eventually we found Ocean Quest, the company we'd booked our flight with.

Straight away we were greeted by a lovely member of staff whose calm and friendly personality immediately put us at ease.

It's amazing how much difference a warm welcome can make.

Within minutes I felt considerably more relaxed.

A Fantastic Team

Soon afterwards we met the captain and crew who would be taking us out.

From the very first conversation, it was obvious these guys loved what they do.

They joked with us both, explained everything clearly and made us both feel safe and welcome.

Even though I was still feeling nervous inside, they somehow managed to make the whole experience feel exciting rather than intimidating.

They carefully fitted our life jackets and harnesses, checked everything thoroughly and even helped me find the best way to mount my DJI Action camera so I could film the entire flight.

Little touches like that made a huge difference.

Nothing ever felt rushed.

Everything was calm, professional and reassuring.

Time To Fly

Before long we were leaving the marina behind.

Watching the parachute deploy behind the boat was exciting enough on its own.

Then came the moment we'd been waiting for.

Harnesses clipped in.

Safety checks complete.

One last smile from the crew...

Then suddenly...

We were airborne.

The feeling is impossible to describe properly.

You don't get launched into the sky.

Instead, you're lifted gently and smoothly from the back of the boat before climbing higher and higher above the Algarve coastline.

Within seconds the nerves had completely disappeared.

All that remained was excitement.

Views We'll Never Forget

Once we reached full height, the views were simply breathtaking.

Looking out across the Atlantic Ocean felt endless.

Turning back towards the coastline revealed spectacular views of Vilamoura Marina, Quarteira Beach and the beautiful Algarve stretching into the distance.

Everything looked so peaceful from above.

Connor even spotted rays swimming beneath us in the crystal-clear water along with several other fish.

It was incredible seeing the marine life from such a unique perspective.

For those few minutes, it honestly felt like nothing else in the world mattered.

The Surprise Dip

Just when we thought the experience couldn't get any better, the crew added a little extra fun.

They slowly lowered us towards the sea until our feet gently touched the water.

Within seconds, water shot all the way up my back.

Let's just say...

I've never had such a clean backside in my entire life!

Connor couldn't stop laughing.

Before we had time to recover, we were soaring back into the sky once again.

Those few moments perfectly summed up the whole experience.

Exciting.

Beautiful.

And a lot of fun.

A Perfect Landing

Like the take-off, the landing was unbelievably smooth.

Before we realised it, we were gently lowered straight back onto the rear platform of the boat exactly where we'd started.

No drama.

No fear.

Just huge smiles all round.

It genuinely ranks as one of the best experiences we've ever shared together.

From the lady who greeted us at reception to the captain and crew onboard, every single member of staff made us feel welcome from beginning to end.

They were friendly, funny, professional and clearly passionate about giving people an unforgettable experience.
