A Slightly Different Fishing Trip
We headed down to Tankerton Beach for a quick daytime fishing session, although this particular trip was going to be a little different from our usual adventures.

Connor was at college, which meant that for once, I was heading out without my usual fishing partner. It felt strange, if I'm being truthful, but he's growing up, moving forward with his life, and college is important.
The good news? Callum said he'd come along!

I've noticed him slowly becoming more interested in fishing lately, and I absolutely love it. There's something special about seeing that interest develop, especially when it's something we can enjoy together.
So, we had one very important mission for the day.
Get Callum his first ever fish!
The Bass Were There... Just Not Quite the Size We Wanted!
Our good friend Teejay decided to join us on the beach, and between the three of us, we were feeling fairly optimistic.

We were hoping to find a few decent bass, and although we certainly managed to locate them, it wasn't exactly the bass frenzy we'd been dreaming of!
Teejay started picking up several little bass, and I was getting amongst them too.
The problem was that most of them appeared to have forgotten to grow up!
Still, a fish is a fish, and at least we were getting some action.

I did manage to find one slightly better fish, a lovely bass measuring 40cm. Although still below the legal minimum landing size of 42cm, it was a cracking little fish and certainly a welcome sight amongst all the babies!
Like every other fish caught during the session, it was safely returned to the sea.
Callum Finally Does It!
Now, this is where the day really became special.
Callum caught his first ever fish!

A little bass, nothing enormous, but that really didn't matter.
He'd done it!
And as if that wasn't enough, he went on to catch another two!
Three bass for Callum, and his first three fish ever.
As a dad, there's something incredibly rewarding about moments like that. Watching him slowly take an interest in fishing is one thing, but seeing him actually catch his first fish was absolutely brilliant.

Hopefully, this is the beginning of many more adventures with him joining us on the shoreline.
Who knows, perhaps we'll have another proper little angler in the family before long!
A Rainbow Worth Remembering
The fishing wasn't the only thing that made the day memorable.
At one point, we had a small shower pass over us, and shortly afterwards, the most incredible rainbow appeared right in front of us.

It was one of those moments when you just stop for a second and appreciate where you are.
Fresh sea air, the sound of the water, good company and a beautiful rainbow stretching across the sky.
Sometimes fishing really isn't just about the fish.
It's about being outdoors, escaping the everyday routine and enjoying the little things that make life special.
And this was certainly one of those moments.
Connor Makes a Late Appearance
Towards the end of the session, Connor managed to join us after finishing college.
He didn't get the chance to catch anything himself, but it was lovely that he still made the effort to come down and see how we'd got on.

It's going to take some getting used to, having him away at college during some of our trips, but that's life, and I'm proud of him for getting on with his future.
And let's face it, there will always be another tide and another fishing adventure waiting for us!
Final Thoughts – It's Not Always About the Size
Looking back, this wasn't a session filled with monster bass or spectacular catches.
Teejay managed several little fish, I had a few myself, including that lovely 40cm bass, and Callum finished with three of his very own.
Every single fish was safely returned to the water.
But for me, the real success of the day wasn't measured in centimetres or numbers.

It was watching Callum catch his first fish, spending time with good company, enjoying an incredible rainbow and having Connor turn up to join us at the end.
Those are the moments that stick with you.
And that's exactly what Tides & Tribe is all about.
A massive shout-out to all you crazy bunch who watch our videos, read our catch reports and follow us along this journey.
