Teaching the Next Generation – A Deal Beach Fishing Session

Teaching the Next Generation – A Deal Beach Fishing Session

This trip was all about more than just fishing.

It was about getting someone new involved in the sport and enjoying a proper day on the beach.

Me and Connor headed over to Deal Beach, but this time he brought along his friend Eddie so we could teach him the basics of sea fishing.

Bait Stop & Heading to the Beach

Before setting up, we made a stop at Fisherman's Corner to collect some fresh bait for the session. Once we were sorted, we headed straight over to the beachfront, arriving while the tide was still ebbing.

Getting there early worked out perfectly. It gave us plenty of time to get everything set up properly, talk Eddie through rigs, casting, baiting up and general beach fishing tips without any rush.

Beginner’s Luck on the First Cast

It didn’t take long at all for the action to begin.

Within about 15 minutes — and on his very first cast — Eddie was into a fish!

It turned out to be a small rockling, but that didn’t matter one bit. Your first fish from the sea is something you never forget, no matter the size. Moments like that are what hook people into fishing for life and inspire them to keep chasing that bigger prize in the future.

Seeing the excitement on his face made the whole trip worthwhile.

A Slow Start for Connor… But a Strong Finish

Connor didn’t get off to the best start and had a bit of a quiet run early on while Eddie stole the spotlight with his beginner’s luck.

However, he stuck at it and was eventually rewarded later in the evening with a couple of catches that saved him from a blank. Nothing huge, but enough to turn the session around and keep the smiles going.

Full Catch Report

Overall, it turned into a nice steady session with a mixed bag of species:

Me: 2 Whiting, 1 Rockling, 3 Dogfish & 6 Dabs

Connor: 1 Rockling & 1 Dogfish

Eddie: 1 Rockling & 1 Dab (First Ever Sea Fish)

Not an amazing session numbers-wise compared to some days, but definitely a fun and memorable one.

More Than Just Fishing

For me, the highlight wasn’t the catch count — it was getting Connor’s friend out on the beach and introducing him to sea fishing properly.

I genuinely love seeing the younger generation getting involved in angling. It gives me real hope for the future of sea fishing, especially when you see how quickly they pick it up and how much they enjoy it.

A Session to Remember

All in all, it was a lovely little session.

Good company, steady bites, and a first-ever sea fish that Eddie will remember for years to come.

Safe to say he really enjoyed what me and Connor showed him, and I’ve got a feeling he’ll definitely be featuring in future trip videos!

Help us build a picture of what's being caught around the UK. Send us your latest catch report and photo — big or small, we'd love to see it.
