The Reality of Fishing – Reculver Blank Session (late upload)
Share
Following on from our last upload, this is another session that sat on the computer a little longer than planned 😅
Filmed on the 2nd of April, we headed down to Reculver with high hopes of finding an early smoothhound or two. After finally getting a few fish the night before, we were feeling optimistic.
But fishing has a way of bringing you straight back down to earth.

High Hopes… and a Lot of Wind
Instead of smoothhounds, what we were met with was strong wind and tough conditions.
We gave it a proper go, trying a range of baits:
Fresh crab we collected from the previous session
Worms
Squid
Everything that should have given us a chance…
But nothing worked.
Not a single bite.

The Blank Sessions Everyone Gets
This trip ended in a full blank—and that’s just part of fishing.
It’s easy to scroll through videos and see people constantly catching, but that’s rarely the full picture. The truth is, blank sessions happen a lot more than people might think.
And honestly, those are the sessions where you learn the most.
You start questioning:
Conditions
Location choices
Bait selection
Timing
Every blank adds experience, even if it doesn’t add fish to the tally.

A Positive from the Day
Even though the fishing didn’t go to plan, the trip still had a big positive.
We met someone who digs bait professionally, full-time. After a good chat, we swapped details and it’s something that could play an important role going forward—especially as we continue building the bait side of Tides and Tribe.
Opportunities like that don’t come from sitting at home—they come from being out there.

Why Sessions Like This Matter
This video might not be the most exciting, but it’s one of the most real.
If you’re just getting into fishing, it’s important to understand that success doesn’t come every trip. There are highs, but there are also plenty of quiet sessions in between.
And that’s okay.
Because fishing isn’t just about catching, if it were we would call it catching!
It’s about:
Being outdoors
Exploring great locations like Reculver
Spending time with good people
Enjoying the fresh sea air

Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, we didn’t catch anything—but we still came away with something valuable.
A new contact, more experience, and another session shared.
And really… that’s what it’s all about.

More videos coming soon—hopefully with a few more fish in them 😂
