Waffle and Whiting at Whitstable Beach

Waffle and Whiting at Whitstable Beach

With nothing to do at home and the tides heading the wrong way, me and Connor decided to head out for a few hours of fresh air and sea breeze down at Whitstable Beach for a quick fishing trip. Sometimes you’ve just got to go — no matter what the tide chart says!

We started our trip with a stop at Larkins, one of our go-to food spots. Fully fuelled and ready for action, we made our way to the beach only to find exactly what we expected — no water to fish into. Classic low tide.

The Street & DIY Bait Hunting

With the famous Whitstable Street fully exposed, Connor decided to make the most of it. He headed out a few times, trying his luck and exploring the flats, but no bites this time.

He then switched tactics and started digging for worms and using our lobster pot net thingy to hunt for any extra bait he could find. To be fair, he did a decent job — always handy having a built-in bait digger with you!

Camera Experiments Gone Wrong

While waiting for the tide to creep back up, I thought I’d mess around with the camera settings… which turned into a bit of a disaster. Some of the footage ended up looking washed out or colourless — so if you notice the dull tones in the video, that’s all on me. Lesson learned: don’t experiment when you’re half asleep! 😅

Whiting, Dogfish & Endless Bites

Once the tide came in, the rods were non-stop! Unfortunately, it was mostly whiting and dogfish once again. Not what we were hoping for, but at least we were catching and not sitting in silence.

Despite the results, it was one of those relaxing evenings where the laughs, sea air, and company made it worthwhile.

Catch Report

Loads of fish… just not the ones we wanted! Between the whiting and dogfish, it was hard to keep count. But as always, fishing is fishing — better to be out catching the wrong fish than sitting at home catching nothing.

Final Thoughts

I’ll admit it — I was absolutely shattered and ended up rambling on through most of the video, so apologies if I waffled too much! Still, it was a peaceful, easy-going session that reminded me why I love these little unplanned trips.

The camera may have let me down, but the sea never does. Tight lines everyone, and here’s to the next one!

Help us build a picture of what's being caught around the UK. Send us your latest catch report and photo — big or small, we'd love to see it.
